#418 Buddy, Male, Two Years Old
Buddy is a 3 year old male. He is on the small side, a sweet boy and very active. If you want a smart dog that likes to learn, Buddy is your boy! This guy is a blank slate and ready for a home that wants to train a dog for something! He has this wonderful tail that curves over his back and he struts around showing it off. He has this quirky smile because his upper lip catches on his snaggle tooth when he looks at you. He is house broken, and has learned to use a doggy door to have access to the back yard. He has a fairly reliable recall if he is not too excited. He does like to play with balls, although he does not really fetch. He likes interactive toys where he has to work at getting treats, and he thinks Squeaky toys are THE BOMB! He gives wonderful kisses, and will share a couch or bed to be petted. He does this cute little dance when you scratch his butt! He likes to sit with his foster Mom and will play tug, or play with a ball or Kong. Buddy is very endearing, interactive, and loves his time with his human, yet can be just as satisfied to throw a toy around and bat toys on his doggy bed by himself. This is one fun, busy boy.
Buddy came to us with a serious CCD of chasing shadows and is one of our successful Rehab candidates. His foster home has done a lot of work with him with the support of veterinary staff and other animal proffessionals. He now will settle and engage in other activities rather than looking for shadows to chase. He knows his name, and it can be used to break his compulsive pattern along with a “leave it’. He is a Border Collie that is VERY movement oriented. He can be a bit overwhelming to other dogs, so not all dogs get along well with him. Due to this he needs to be in an only dog home, or a home with a submissive dog ,and should not be with cats or small children. He is on a veterinary prescription, an herbal calming powder, and a Pro line of veterinary calming chew. He will need to be on this regimen for the rest of his life. Buddy will need to be managed with an X-Pen or crate when he can’t be supervised, otherwise he can become frustrated, and can return to his CCD behaviors. He does well when confined and loves to have a food toy or two to occupy his mind. Buddy’s foster mom will continue to reinforce his behavior until he finds a forever home. She is willing to help his adoptive family if he stays in the DFW area, and if not, will find help wherever he lands.
If you can find it in your heart to take on this fun quirky fellow, Buddy has so much to give. He has come so far from when we took him in, and really is one of our successful rehabs. He deserves a home, and is ready for one that is willing love him and give him something to do. He is a lovebug and likes to work and learn. He would probably excell at obedience, rally, nosework or lure coursing. Interested in adoption? Please visit our Website to complete an Adoption Application.
