Mason

#315 Mason, Male, 4-5 Years Old, Good with Cats, Good with Dogs

Mason is a hidden treasure! He came to us as a semi feral stray. He had been on the lamb for a long time and was very skilled at avoiding capture and those attempting to help him. After 4 weeks of attempts, Mason was finally captured in a live trap by animal control in Midland. He was shut down, scared and wanted nothing to do with humans. A great volunteer evaluated him and saw past the outer shell of a dog and believed he could be that one in a million save. (And he is!)

Mason learned to walk on leash and now loves human contact. He will follow his foster parents and seek out their attention by head bumping their hands (Classic Border Collie move!) He is crate trained and loves most everyone he meets. He is still shy to some people but opens up once he realizes he is safe.

He lives with several other Border Collies and a bratty Catahoula brother who is a relentless teaser. Mason is great with most dogs, especially the girls and respectful boys. Mason is great with cats. Mason will not do well with children or homes with lots of activity and sounds. He startles easily and will freeze therefore his foster mom thinks he will do best in an “empty nester” home.

Mason knows many cues: Come, sit, off, lay, paw, and his all time favorite … BALL! Mason is the BEST fetcher in his foster home! He is faster and out runs all the other dogs and never misses getting the BALL! He will play ball until he passes out, but his foster parents suggest watching his cues that he needs to rest as he will bring the ball part way back and drop it just out of his foster parents reach.

He will do best in a home that wants to shower him with love and attention while respecting his shy and gentle nature. Mason sleeps in his crate but will do well anywhere. He is not a chewer and not destructive. He has a very old gentle soul about him. He is approximately 4-5 yrs old, he is fully vetted (DHLPP, Bordetella, rabies and rattlesnake vaccines). He is neutered and microchipped.

If you are looking for a great companion that doesn’t need more than love and a game of ball every day or two, then you will hit the lottery choosing Mason!
